The grape and wine industry has played a significant part in this community since the early days. Today, Altus, Wiederkehr Village and Post Familie Vineyards and Winery are in the 12,000-acre area
of Arkansas that was designated in 1984 as a Federal Viticultural Area. Altus and Wiederkehr Village both host popular events each year celebrating the grapes, wines and colorful heritage of Swiss-German settlers who started it all.
